Kevin Costner's closing statement to the jury in JFK has got to go down as one of the finest performances in movie history. It's a wonder why he wasn't even nominated for an Oscar for that role. 15 years on, JFK still amazes me since I first watched it eons ago on video tape. In a way, it awoken the young me to realise that we can't just accept what Big Brother tells us whole-heartedly. Dangerous words for my line of work but I've realised that. I love the caption in the closing credits:
The past is prologue. Dedicated to the young, in whose spirit the search for truth marches on.
I used to think that way. Searching for truth, freedom and all that shabang. As idealistic as it may sound, in this great big world of ours, the truth is something we sometimes just dream of. We've lost our innocence. When there's food to be put on the table. When there's bills to pay. The minute someone tells us what to do. And that is the awful truth.
