Wayang Kito

It's been a very tiring day.

Slept late last night as I had to send Papa to Gombak for some treatment, He's doing fine, Alhamdulillah but always he could be better.

Was up early this morning for some outstation work (outstation here usually refers to kampungs and small towns on the outskirts of Seremban). Very very busy day entertaining people and what nots. It's tiring but I enjoy the visits. For all that we've achieved this year, kalo dapat penyapu mau ada yang kena sebatang.

Quietly, I'm proud of our achievements this year. It's times like these you feel lucky to be around people you can work with. I love my staff. In a non-freakish kinda way, of course.

I've been noticing it's been quite some time since I last finished a movie at home. In my hard drive sits 12 or 13 movies waiting to be seen. In no particular order, they are:

1. Thumbsucker (I downloaded this, like last year kot. Aku suka konsep ceritanya pasal budak yang suka isap jari sampai dewasa. Isap jari? I can think of a thousand other things better to suck on :P

2.My Neighbour Totoro (A Gibli Studios classic. I watched it once back in school during Japanese classes. Aku tak faham sangat. From there you can guess how good a student I was)

3.Idiocracy (cerita paling bangang aku penah tengok. Actually aku tak tengok pun. Baru 3 minit main, aku dah stop. Buang megabait aku je)

4. Match Point (One word: Scarlett Johansson *drooling* eh ke two words? Wateva)

5 & 6. Flags of Our Fathers & Letters from Iwo Jima (Clint Eastwood beb! Hero ayah aku ni. Movies ni adik beradik. Satu Omputih satu lagi Jepun. Dua-dua belum tengok lagi)

7. The Queen (bukan Steve McQueen ya? Elizabeth lah takkan nenek ko kot)

8. Freedom Writers (Hilary Swank yang tak cun tapi terrer berlakon. You go girl!)

Itupun sebab baca IMDB)

11. The Good Shepherd (cerita spy Matt Damon. Maaf, ini bukan Jason Bourne)

12. Zodiac (aku nak tengok sebab cerita serial killer tersohor iaitu the Zodiac Killer)

13. Bobby (cerita pasal assasination Robert Kennedy. Aku suka cerita-cerita sejarah camni)

14. Sicko (Yay! Aku baru download semalam dan saya tak sabar nak menontonnya. You don't have to be a genius to know yang saya suka Micheal Moore)

15. A Scanner Darkly (cerita Keanu Reeves yang gambo dia lain macam sket. Cam citer kartun)

Wahh, rupanya 15 filem yang ditunggu untuk diskodeng. Gosh, I really need to catch up on my movies. Oscar season is coming up.

O wise and loyal reader(s), filem apakah yang patut ditonton dahulu? Saya memang suka Micheal Moore jadi nampaknya Sicko lah kot. Mungkin anda mempunyai pandangan berbeda? Gua caya lu brader!

10 November 2007

adalah hari Sabtu.

I wrote a lengthy entry on the BERSIH rally in Kuala Lumpur.

Cilakak betul. Bangang punya Blogger.

Mungkin Big Brother sedang memerhatikan gerak-geri ku lalu menghalang proses publishing itu. Yeah right.

Sini ada gambar bulan saje (not that the bulan means anything okayy)

Aku dah malas nak karang balik. Penat beb gua pecah kepala buat karya ko tau? Baik aku tulis pasal penyapu. Kenapa penyapu?

Barulah adil menyapu bersama.

Satu lagi nak cerita kawan kita sorang tu yang ditemubual AlJazeera. Aisehhhh...cannot lah like that. Must diplomacy speaking lah. Pakistan and Myanmar wallop you then padan muka.

Oh and about the BERSIH rally? Aku stuck dalam traffic jam berjam-jam. Aku tak nampak sorang pun pakai baju kuning.

Sekian laporan saya.

I want to be the next YouTube superstar

I think all good things should be shared.

I'm talking about Marie Digby.

Some of you may recognise the name while others may draw a blank face. Who is she? Why, she's Internet's Flavour of the Month (could be the Year). She's the voice behind the catchy acoustic version of Rihanna's Umbrella (you know, ella ella ella).

I know a lot of people have blogged about her and she's all over the radio nowadays, even in our humble country. And even though only a handful of people read my blog here but heck, I think she deserves an extra fan or two. I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it on radio a couple of weeks back. A quick Google on "acoustic rihanna umbrella" to download the song illegally, revealed her video on YouTube. I was impressed.

Now this is what a true Internet superstar should be. Not Tila Tequila with her gazillion friends on MySpace, or lonelygirl15 who wasn't really lonely at all. This is about unearthing an unknown talent and well, you could say her looks played a part as well. A cute chick on 6 strings? Can anything else be more sexy?

That's the power of Web 2.0 for you. No wonder Time named 'You' as Person of the Year. Here's Marie making her debut on national TV on Carson Daly's show. Looks a bit nervous, but aren't we all? I don't usually post YouTube clips on my blog but for Marie's sake, takpelah. Plus, she's half-Japanese so kenalah tolong warih-warih kito :P

Post-OBW Syndrome

How was my OBW?

It wasn't so bad. It wasn't so great either. Being the celebration of 50 years of STAR, this year's OBW was more ceremonial than usual. There was the Sultan, the parachutes, the hot Celcom chicks, the nice bag and the goodies inside.

And that was pretty much it.

But I'm not complaining much either. As tigerlaneboy puts it, "It’s as fantastic as you want it to be."
And I have to agree. I'm not sure what I was expecting from OBW 2007 in the first place. Which brings me to the thought, "What's my perfect OBW?"

I guess I just love to come back to relive the memories. Simply put, it's about meeting old friends, old teachers and visiting the places you were familiar with for 5 years. And that's pretty much it. Oh, maybe the STAR vs Old Boys' games should be included too. Throw in some Dewan Makan food. Perfect.

Some of the highlights I should mention was the kickass lineup of former teachers unveiled on stage during the Grand Dinner. I'm still young to appreciate past greats such as Pak Lau (Lau Hut Yee) and Tan Teong Leong but still managed to meet some of them in Mr. Mano (my biology teacher in Form 5 who likes to say, "B*toh hang! K*te hang!"), Cikgu Harmain (Form 1 warden a.k.a tauke tiket bas kalo ko nak balik kampung zaman form one yang tak reti nak explore Medan Kidd, this is da man!), Cikgu now retired Datuk Dawa (Form 3 & 4 headmaster), Puan Liew (I was soooo excited to see Puan Liew! Haven't seen her since she left in Form 4. My maths teacher during Form 4. She literally transformed my love for numbers. Nasib baik dia ajar aku Modern Math dari Form 4. Sejak Puan Liew mengajar saya, matematik moden menjadi subjek kacang buat saya hahaha macam iklan murah. Kalo nak cite pasal Puan Liew, 3 malam tak habis nantilah aku cite dalam Tales from Tiger Lane) and last but not least the ever loveable Pak Cheng who taught us Kemahiran Hidup from Form 1 to Form 3. Pak Cheng dulu pernah marah aku tak reti menukang time Form One. Nasib baik aku kecik time tu kalo tak aku dah tukul kepala dia balik hahaha. Pak Cheng ni juga aku ingat masa malam sebelum paper KH PMR '95 sebab malam tu dia datang dengan bau arak yang kuat. Aduhai Pak Cheng aku ni rupanya kaki tonggang jugak orangnya. Yam Seng!!)

Other notables include Ustad Mokhtar who will be retiring soon (he likes to have sentences such as "Kita mesti menjadi orang yang baaa...." and lets us finish it. Endings that cannot be printed here are usually said but not aloud of course), Puan Umaimah (dia tak ajar aku so takde story sangat) Miss Venny Lee (dia keluar dari STAR sebelum aku masuk. Venny ni aku dengar adalah mak Canny Ong so I can guess where she gets her looks from) Most notable should also be Cikgu Aiza yang aku tak jumpa kat Ipoh aritu tapi nampak gambar dia dalam website old boys. Darnit! She looks to have gained a few(I'm being kind here) pounds and was a far cry from the Cik Aiza I once had a crush on. She was my English teacher in Form 2 and 3 so ko ingat aku belaja English betul-betul sebab apa?? Ahhh...I was never her teacher's pet anyway :(

Other than that, there was the annual traditional rugby game between the old boys and STAR. I guess I came for the event and the people there. It was really great to see past seniors, juniors, betik, jambu and the whole lot. I hope when my batch comes to take responsibility for organising OBW in the year 2017, I'll remember these small details on what OBW should really be. It's a big responsibility and I offer my congratulations to the organising committee for a good job. I have some photos here so enjoy them. Happy 50th STAR. You'll always be in my heart.
