Here there everywhere

I used to lurrvve blogging.
I'm not as passionate as I used to be. So these random notes will do:

Poor Tun. I know the feeling of inhaling pepper spray when this girl once demonstrated the damn thing in class. Which got the whole class wheezing and coughing away. Nasty stuff I tell ya. But Tun oh Tun oh Tun. Cukuplah tu. Things are getting more nauseating than the pepper spray itself. And the plot just gets thicker and thicker...

What's with KJ shouting like a madman in KLCC? Oh I forgot. He's a PWP. Politician Without Portfolio. The most dangerous of them all.

The Middle East is getting worse by the day. It's a bloody meltdown over there. I have nothing intelligent to say on this matter. They got a gajillion experts talking about it 24-7 on CNN, BBC, CNBC or Bloomberg. Just take your pick. But it's sad really to see innocent people dying. No matter what race or religion they are. People shouldn't die. The policy makers should.

They ran an emotional piece on 'Melodi' today on the passing away of Hani Mohsin. Quite touching too.
Yeah, yeah so I watch the damn show. I admit. Hey, for one hour you get all the latest gossips and issues on our local entertainment industry without relying on Mangga, URTV and such. What a bargain!!

Tina Fey has a new show premiering this fall (That's October for us in season-less Malaysia). I really hope it's as funny as the SNL sketches she writes for. I guess I have this thing for woman comedians (comedienne?). They're cute and funny.
I like that. Cute and funny.

You see how I changed the topic from politics to cute girls? That's blogging for you, baby.

Of Icemans and Tigers

Sports seems to be the menu of the day for the past weekend. First, I got a glimpse of the testimonial match for Dennis Bergkamp at the new Emirates Stadium. Not that I was there but believe me, you would have paid a premium to be there in person. The match, which pitted Arsenal vs. Ajax Amsterdam boasted a who's who of past Arsenal and Holland greats. From the likes of Wright, Seaman, Petit, Overmars, Vieira and oh, not to forget Sir Henry to utter legends of Cryuff and Van Basten. Throw in an Edgar Davids, Rijkaard and van der Sar, and you've got possibbly an awesome lineup of past and present heroes. Even typing out that list makes me drool in admiration.
It's been a somewhat sad year in football when a few of the great names bid farewell to Saturday and the beautiful game as a whole. It started when my personal Geordie hero, the great Alan Shearer bid farewell in a brief appearance of his testimonial at St. James. Followed up by the great Zinedine Zidane who we all know how his last game went. Zizou's a great player who was a great ambassador of the sport, but I think he was right to be punished after losing his cool in such an important game in his life. There will be few like him, and his place among legends shall be preserved. Lastly, Dennis Bergkamp bid farewell to us last Saturday. I still have an issue of Shoot magazine circa 1995 which interviewed him a few weeks after signing on for Arsenal. Little that I know then, that this man would be the catalyst for Arsenal's domination for the coming decade. You know that you've grown old when your childhood heroes are lining up at the press box and touchline instead of the field. Farewell Shearer, Zidane and Bergkamp. You've been great players who gets fans like me coming back for more.

And on another note, I stayed up last night to watch Tiger Woods finish his round at Hoylake. He is such a great player to watch and even though I just started to appreciate golf, I would be lying if I said I followed golf not because of him. His emotional breakdown at the end followed up with a great acceptance speech proves that he is more than a great player. I'm roaring for you to beat Jack's record. With 7 Majors to go, rest assured I'll be keeping track all the way. When he burst into tears after sinking his final putt, the commentator noted, "He is human after all."
A normal human with superhuman abilities is what he is. Congratulations, Tiger.

Do the right thing

At a time when the world celebrated Italy's win in Berlin 2 weeks ago, Malaysians snapped back into reality when FIFA announced the latest world rankings. At a pathetic number 146 in the world, the once-proud Harimau Malaya is swimming amongst nations such as Bangladesh and Antiqua and Barbuda?? Oh FYI, they're one place above us and I swear I don't even know where that is.
Time and time again (ala Andy Gray) we're fed with countless excuses and criticism coming from all sides. But the one that caused an uproar this week was from Kalabakan MP Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh who called for the people at FAM to 'resign in dignity' after the latest FIFA rankings were revealed. He even went further by suggesting that its management (FAM) be taken over by the people of MyTeam. Shebby Singh as FAM president? That's gonna take a bit of getting used to. Who's gonna feed me crap during the half-time analysis?
Jokes aside, I think Datuk Ghapur was voicing out the opinions of thousands of Malaysian people (I didn't say fans because do we honestly have one?), including yours truly here. Yes, FAM should be revamped. Didn't they learn anything from the PWC audit a few years back? Or did the people at PWC deemed them hopeless and so nothing can be done except for us to pray for a miracle? And if it's something that we need, it sure is devine intervention.
There's even talk of bringing in outside help (read: naturalised citizens) to help boost our team. Why shouldn't we? Singapore is giving away passports like free sampels at the pasar malam. Japan did it too. Maybe it's time we look for an Ahmad Ronaldo or an Ali Ribery. We did the same thing during the Commonwealth Games, why shouldn't it apply for football as well? I'm not saying we should have a team full of outside players, but if bringing in an outsider can give an edge to the team, why not? I'm all out here for improvement. Things should be done to help improve the game, not just a short-term solution for the World Cup Finals to be hosted in Malaysia (which right now, seems to be the only way we're gonna qualify).
And as much as I love MyTeam, I don't agree with Datuk's suggestion for FAM to be run by them. Get this in your head lah Malaysian people, MyTeam is a TV show. Teevee. You get me? Running a national organisation and a TV programme are two different things altogether. MyTeam had its run. So be it. Don't pray for lightning to strike twice.
I've been yapping about on Malaysian football for a good two years now. And that's on the web alone. If you count in the kedai kopi talk and the yelling and screaming at the stadium, then it'll be countless of years.
I say enough is enough. I'm tired of staying up late to give support to a country I've never been to. I'm through with cheering some Mat Salleh who probably can't pronounce my name right. Who doesn't dream of a World Cup where your country is one of the finalists?
Malaysian football needs to get back on its feet. And fast. That's why a whole new system must be in place. New ideas, fresh approaches. Only dumb, ignorant people can't see that part of the problem of our football team lies within the management of the sport. Of course, FAM is not at fault for everything, but since management plays a big part in the modern game they should be brave and honourable enough to do the right thing.
And that is to resign.

CK

The nation's worst kept secret was finally confirmed yesterday.
Secretly, I know most of you hoped that the rumours weren't true. Boo hoo.

So mark your calendar for 21st of August. I can only imagine the hype leading up to the event.
With that maybe we can safely move along to other serious matters that require our attention, such as this.

God bless Malaysia.

Lima Perkara

Mooke gave me an excuse to update. Darn, I haven't done this kinda thing for quite a while. Here goes:

Name 5 people who are currently on your current list of “most favourite blog mates.

I have a life OUTSIDE of this blog, thank you very much. What is this? The Matrix??

Name 5 types of people who irk, amaze, amuse, disgust you.

This question bugs me. Does it mean I have to name 5 types of people who irk, amaze, amuse and disgust me all at the same time? Or do I have to name 5 types who irk, amaze, amuse and disgust me according to each category? It says 5 but there's only 4 categories. Are you confused yet? Welcome to Stone's brain.

Name 5 hot male/female celebrities.

Monica Bellucci
Alizee, the French sizzler
Shu Qi
Those Baywatch babes used to be hot: Bleeth, Electra and Co.
That Indonesian chick in Alexandria, Julie sumthing?

Name 5 things you are passionate about.

Football
Good movies
Great TV shows
My life
and without sounding too Miss World-esque, my country?

Give 5 phrases that describe you.

Lalang
Optimist
Dreamer
Loud-mouthed
I always play it safe. That's why I use Durex :P

Sekian, terima kasih.

Friday night lights

*It's my mom's birthday today and I totally, totally forgot. I just realised it when she told me that EE called up this morning to wish her. So much for being an anak mithali. I'm gonna burn in Hell for this.

*I found something to do at 7.30 pm on weekdays. Seinfeld is on!! I sooooooo love Elaine, she's sooooo funny and cute....gegege

*The world is a bloody small place. I just found out that the 'line clear' guy from the mamak stall in Old Town PJ is working at a restaurant just beside my office here. Secretly I think he's following me :P

*I miss the people from my six month adventure. It's been one hell of a ride, that I tell ya. A jiwang tribute is in the works. It's just that I need some time to take it all in. I think procrastinating is the right word here.

*Shit, I think I have a crush.

They Got Game

The World Cup is drawing to an end and here I am just starting to write about it.
Busy? Well, kinda. For the last couple of weeks. But not that busy. Just...well, malas. To tell you the truth, I haven't been keeping an eye on the World's Greatest Show as I would have liked. I missed a lot of the 1st round games and a few of the good matches during the knockout stage. But as I came home after finishing my 6-month merry-go-round, I booked my seat for the quarter-finals. It's never too late for the World Cup, isn't it?
I am always in awe of the World Cup. There's just something about it that makes it the most watched event in the entire universe. And it never fails to do so. I read an article recently by UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan on how he envies the World Cup. As most of you would know, FIFA has more members than the UN. That's quite a statement on football being the world's favourite game.
Be it Jerantut to Delhi, Bali to Zimbabwe, everyone can relate to the World Cup. And the most beautiful thing about it, is that only 32 nations take part and yet the world takes attention like it's the world's fair. A carnival of people, culture and the sport itself. I should know best because this great country of ours have never, ever qualified. And yet, we stay up till early dawn to watch some grown-up Mat Salleh weeping tears. Such is the intensity and passion of this tournament.
With the semi-finals coming up tonight, you can bet your Copa Mundials I'm staying up to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed the quarter-finals even though England lost. Say what you want about England, but they will always remain my sentimental team. I know that they suck, but my heart usually goes out to them. I guess the overdose of EPL football since a young age has taken its toll on me.
I get a bit sentimental (yes, us men do over football) when I recall that this will be the last World Cup for many stars who I have grown up with over the years. None more than the great Zidane who put on a masterclass act against the Brazilians. Others include Roberto Carlos, Figo, Beckham (it just felt like yesterday when he was sent off against Argentina) and even Ronaldo might be in his final World Cup.
As usual, World Cups are always about prediction, so here I go:

Germany vs. Italy
Germany because One: They impress me with their style of play. No more boring techincal Germans of the past. Two: Juergen Klinsmann was one of my childhood heroes. I think it started with him playing for Spurs. I think he's doing an excellent job, bringing an American approach to his coaching. Three: It's their home turf, dagnabbit!! Plus, I've never liked Italy's style of play either. Who the hell watches Serie A? *Yawn*

France vs. Portugal
For sentimental reasons, I would love for France to win. A fitting farewell to the great legend miseur Zizou. But realistically, I think Portugal can pull it off. For one reason only: Luiz Felipe Scolari. He's a master tactician and it's England's loss that he rejected coaching for them. This one's gonna be a cracker.

So there you have it. Stone's prediction for the World Cup. FYI, I really suck in predicting games so don't bet your mortgage on it. See you in the Final!
